Privacy Policy — Open Skies PhotoForecast
Open Skies PhotoForecast (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is a photography conditions forecast app. This policy explains what data the app uses and how. In short: we do not have accounts, we do not run ads or analytics, we do not track you, and we do not sell or share your personal data.
Information the app uses
Location. With your permission, the app uses your device's location (approximate or precise) to:
- show the weather and lighting forecast for where you are, and
- find the best nearby conditions, known photography locations, and any active severe-weather alerts.
Your location is used only while you are using the app. You can also search for locations manually and never grant location access.
Saved locations & preferences. Locations you save and your selected options are stored locally on your device only. They are not uploaded to us.
Notifications. Optimal-conditions reminders are scheduled locally on your device. We do not operate a push-notification server and do not collect a device token.
Data we do NOT collect
- We do not create user accounts or collect names, emails, or passwords.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell or share your personal information.
- We do not maintain servers that store your data.
Third-party services
To produce forecasts, the app sends the coordinates you request (your current or searched location) directly from your device to these providers, subject to their own privacy practices:
- Open-Meteo — weather forecasts, air-quality data (haze and wildfire smoke), and location search. https://open-meteo.com/en/terms
- Geoapify — nearby photography locations, derived from OpenStreetMap. https://www.geoapify.com/privacy-policy/ · https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
- US National Weather Service (weather.gov) — active severe-weather alerts. Contacted only for locations in the United States. https://www.weather.gov/privacy
These requests contain the coordinates being forecast but no account or advertising identifiers.
On-device services. Converting your GPS position into a place name, and the map in the Locations tab, are handled by Apple's own services on your device. They are subject to Apple's privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
Opening directions. If you tap “Open in Maps” for a location, your device opens Google Maps with that spot's coordinates. This happens only when you tap it, and is handled by whichever app or browser opens the link.
Purchases. If you subscribe to Open Skies Pro, purchases are processed by Apple and validated through RevenueCat, which receives a randomly generated app user ID and your purchase status. It does not receive your name, email, or location. https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will change accordingly.
